Clive Palfrey joined the Seafood Cornwall Training team to work with fishermen on all aspects of sea safety, improving safety knowledge, sharing good practice and solutions
Seafood Cornwall Training carried out a survey in 2021 which found that 70% of respondents had not called the coastguard after an incident at sea. Skippers and vessel owners were concerned of the risk their vessel may be prevented from going out to sea after an inspection from the Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA), following an accident report.
To help vessel owners address concerns of restrictions after an MCA inspection, Seafood Cornwall Training offer free safety and risk assessment workshops. Ex-fisher, Clive Palfrey, goes from vessel to vessel offering one-on-one advice to make vessels safe and ready for an MCA inspection
